  • LTBD: What was it like when you first pulled out of the parking lot?

On page 5, Lu writes the following: "Pulling out of the hospital parking lot, our It's a Boy balloon bobbing in the back window, we wave at the security guard. We are all three cocooned in fleece and down. I can see my breath. The windows are fogging. My eyes well. The sun is setting. Glancing at the hospital entrance in the side-view mirror, I remember the nurse's parting words: "Sleep on his back. Breast milk is best. Nap when he naps. Good luck!"

I remember leaving the hospital and having the feeling that I was in a dream. I was so excited to get home with my baby girl and yet anxious that I was now entrusted with this baby girl's life. She was wrapped in a pink bunny car seat carrier outfit. i wanted to hold her and just keep staring at her beautiful face. It was surreal for me.

What was your experience like when leaving the hospital or having a home birth?
