  • Chapter 2: Special Time

On page 66 Dr. Laura Markham writes: "Every child benefits from Special Time to reconnect with each parent often, if possible every day. Think of it as preventive maintenance to keep things on track in your family. And if you're having issues with your child, adding Special Time is the first thing to change."

How do you implement special time for yourself? How does your partner spend special time as well?

For me, it is during snack time after school and bedtime. After school while she is eating a snack we
talk over the day or I watch her TV show with her. She'll come over and spend snuggle time with me after she eats. At bedtime, we spend time snuggling in the bed for 30-45 minutes before she drifts off to sleep. She really values this time she says because it's a chance to talk in the dark she says.

My husband spends his Special Time by playing video games with her, riding bikes together, tickle time, or snuggling in the bed with her as well.
