  • Chapter 2: Small rituals

In Chapter 2, daily rituals are mentioned: "Given that parenting is the toughest job on earth -- and most of us do it in our spare time, after we work at another job all day -- the only way to keep a strong bond with our children is to build in daily habits of connection". She provides some examples:

    - developing small rituals that connect you throughout the day.
    - giving your child a small emotional refueling
    - twelve hugs a day
    - turn off technology when your interacting
    - evenings are family time
    - special time
    - physically reconnect by focusing attention on your child
    - attune to your child's moood
    - connect on their level
    - don't little rifts build up
    - remember the to have at least 5 positive interactions to one

What rituals have you developed with your family? For mine, we've developed a ritual of weekly movie nights on Friday evenings, weekly game night on Saturday evenings, and regularly eating our dinner together and asking about our days. Now that the weather is nice we've decided to build in a daily walk together after dinner as a way to connect as well.
